Chewing releases the enzyme Amylase, which is contained in saliva, which breaks down starches.

Food should be chewed up to 20 times per bite. The more you chew, the more amylase is released & the more carbohydrates can be broken down and made available to the body for energy, so try to slow down your eating, and sit at a table without watching television or YouTube and really concentrate on chewing and eating slowly.
